sunset after sunset / soft night coming / east to west.
in a shoebox of photos i thumbed and fingered through pictures of the past. i saw people i'd remembered and clothing i'd forgotten. the still images smiled out at me from inside the box. some of the pictures were photos i took, and some of the photos were pictures of me.
the emulsions hide in the shoebox. the yellow shoebox lives in a drawer. the drawer fits into a wooden chest that lives in the corner of a twelve by eight bedroom in a two-story house. it is a house from the 1970s, built with a giant antenna on top, for the reception of moving television picture signals.
the sun sets every evening to the west of the antenna. sometimes clouds conceal the sun, but usually it is visible. night seems to fall every night, even when you're not tired.
some of the people in the pictures go to bed early, after sundown.
